5.1.IV Dyslexia<br />
Students with dyslexia and related disorders may qualify as a person with disabilities under<br />
Section 504 and should be referred to the 504 Committee to determine eligibility.<br />
5.2 Bilingual/ESL<br />
To comply with federal and state law, the District is required to implement and document<br />
procedures that ensure the identification, placement, review, exit, and monitoring of language<br />
minority students who are limited-English-proficient. To fulfill that requirement, all <strong>Fort</strong> <strong>Worth</strong><br />
<strong>ISD</strong> schools will:<br />
I. Establish office procedure for ensuring students new to FW<strong>ISD</strong> complete a Home<br />
Language Survey (HLS) to determine their home language before the registration process<br />
is started.<br />
II. Parents of (PK-8) students and students in grades 9-12 whose survey shows a language<br />
other than English will be sent to Student Placement Center (SPC) after given<br />
explanation of purpose and given SPC brochure.<br />
III. SPC will complete the registration process, identification for Bilingual or ESL services<br />
and return student/parent back to school with packet of completed registration forms and<br />
language assessment scores.<br />
IV. LPAC chairperson will:<br />
Confirm or change SPC recommendations, by completing Section VI of<br />
LERF, sign, date and follow procedures delineated by SPC<br />
File LERF in student’s file and file a copy in the LPAC Documentation<br />
Framework Binder<br />
Place student in appropriate program;<br />
Review status at end of school year<br />
V. Schools needing assistance whose LPAC chairperson may not be available at the time<br />
student returns from SPC should call SPC 817-740-5520.<br />
5.3 Rented Video Formats [Board Policy CY (Local)<br />
To be shown during class time, commercial films shall have been reviewed and pre-approved by<br />
the principal.<br />
Videos or DVDs rented or owned shall be used in the schools for education purposes only. All<br />
rented or owned media shall be appropriately licensed for display in an instructional setting and<br />
shall not be shown to a class for entertainment purposes.<br />
