Accumulated sediment shall be removed and disturbed areas inside the trap shall be stabilized before conversion to a stormwater management facility. Wherever total trap dewatering is required, one 1” diameter hole should be located at the bottom of the riser and a 2’ thick layer of AASHTO #57 stone placed around the riser up to the top of the sediment storage zone. Filter cloth wrapped around the riser is not an acceptable alternative due to the potential for clogging. A dry sediment trap riser has low sediment removal efficiency. It is not an ABACT for special protection watersheds. However, the efficiency can be raised to MODERATE by anchoring a 6” layer of compost around the outside of the AASHTO #57 stone.
