GRID PAVERS may be used where anticipated velocities and shears are such that greater protection is needed than can be provided by other types of hard armor. Some types of grid pavers also offer the potential of establishing vegetation within the latticework, making the final product more aesthetically pleasing. Bank preparation and installation of the grid pavers should comply with the standards provided by the manufacturer. As with gabions and Reno mattress, care should be taken to adequately protect the upstream and downstream ends of the installation from scour. Figure 15.5 shows a typical installation.
