Curriculum Vitae<br />

Jochem Tolsma was born in Kerkwijk, the Netherl<strong>and</strong>s, on the 15th of December 1977. He obtained<br />

his Master’s degree in Natural Sciences at the Radboud University Nijmegen in 2002. After this,<br />

he worked for a brief period as a youth worker in Bos en Lommer, Amsterdam. He then decided to<br />

study Social Cultural Sciences at the VU University Amsterdam <strong>and</strong> obtained his Master’s degree in<br />

2004. In September 2004, he became a PhD student at the Interuniversity Center for Social Science<br />

Theory <strong>and</strong> Methodology (ICS). He worked on his PhD thesis at the Department of Sociology of<br />

the Radboud University Nijmegen, the Netherl<strong>and</strong>s. Currently, he holds a position as Assistant<br />

Professor at the Department of Sociology at Radboud University Nijmegen.<br />

His fi elds of interest include ethnic hostility, ethnic educational differentials, criminology,<br />

the infl uence of the local living environment on a wide array of outcomes (e.g. ethnic hostility,<br />

residential sorting) <strong>and</strong> quantitative research methods. Among other things, he is currently aiming<br />

to integrate (the causes <strong>and</strong> consequences of) implicit associations into the theoretical framework<br />

of <strong>Ethnic</strong> Competition Theory.<br />
