The whole universe is a revelation of the mind, feel
ing, power, and will of God ; and His nature must be
in harmony with His whole revelation.
Man, in his body and his soul, is preeminently a
revelation of God ; and, in health, is himself the highest
known expression of Divine wisdom and love.
Man, therefore, in his developments, sexes, faculties,
instincts, passions, and relations, is to be devoutly stud
ied. If we would learn the will of God, we may find
it here ; but as man is, either from immaturity or per
version, in a state of discordance with nature,
only understand man rightly by studying his harmoni
ous relations.

It is for this reason that human physiology is a cen
tral or pivotal science. On it is based a knowledge of
God and His laws ; the universe and its divine harmo
nies ; man and his destiny, social and individual.
We shall see that the subject of Health relates to
all these ; that the causes of Disease are in the dis
cordances of man and nature, and that the conditions
of health belong to the harmonies of the universe.
CHAPTER II.
OF THE ANIMAL, MAN.
The fully developed man, of the highest type with
which we are acquainted, is a beautiful and majestic
