The menstrual evacuation, which degenerates into a<br />

real hemorrhage, becomes irregular and uncertain, as<br />

well as depraved in its character. Consequently, the<br />

rule that sexual union, to produce impregnation, must<br />

take place either immediately before, or a few days<br />

after, menstruation, admits of exceptions. It is a safe<br />

rule for those who desire to procreate ; but not entirely<br />

safe for those who would avoid it, as many, for good rea<br />

sons, may<br />
