The bony structure of the head is very complicated.<br />

There are eight bones in the cranium, and fourteen in<br />

the face. The former are mostly flat, and inclose the<br />

brain, to which they offer an admirable protection; the<br />

latter are of various irregular shapes, forming the nose,<br />

jaws, orbit of the eye, roof of the mouth, etc.<br />
