bowels. I can not too strongly urge the necessity of<br />

or quality, would cause a fit. When a fit has been<br />

coming on, I have arrested it by magnetizing him with<br />

my will, assuring him that it would not come, and mak<br />

Catalepsy, or trance, is a spasm or paralysis of the<br />

nerves of motion and general sensation all over the<br />

body. The special senses are often retained, and the<br />

cataleptic or paralyzed person may know every thing<br />

that is going on, while his friends believe him to be<br />

dead. So complete, in some cases, is the suspension<br />

of ail apparent vitality, that many persons have been<br />

buried alive in this state.<br />

Sometimes the soul seems to have a supernatural<br />

activity. Very extraordinary visions of the spiritual world<br />

are related by those who have been in this condition.<br />

In treating such a case, we must be governed by<br />
