or quality, would cause a fit. When a fit has been
coming on, I have arrested it by magnetizing him with
my will, assuring him that it would not come, and mak

Catalepsy, or trance, is a spasm or paralysis of the
nerves of motion and general sensation all over the
body. The special senses are often retained, and the
cataleptic or paralyzed person may know every thing
that is going on, while his friends believe him to be
dead. So complete, in some cases, is the suspension
of ail apparent vitality, that many persons have been
buried alive in this state.
Sometimes the soul seems to have a supernatural
activity. Very extraordinary visions of the spiritual world
are related by those who have been in this condition.
In treating such a case, we must be governed by
general principles and particular symptoms.
