GERVASONI
1. GentUU (1988) p. 3.
2. Claude Culvenor (great grandson of Carlo), The Gervasonis and the Settlement
of Yandoit Creek, Daylesford, Jim Crow Press, 1995, p. 3. Much of the
information related to the activities of the family derive from this text, my
conversations with Mr. Culvenor and analysis of letters and documents held by
the Vaccari Historical Tmst, Melboume.
3. While Giuseppe wrote fluently from Australia and Luigi was his main
correspondent, family history suggests that Carlo was illiterate.
4. Sagazio (1990) p. 25.
5. Cheda (1979) Vol, 1, pp, 134-138.
6. GentiUi (1988) pp. 118-119.
7. The lack of councU loans awarded in 1858, also evidenced in Cheda (1979)
Vol. 1, would suggest their cessation by this date.
8. Culvenor (1995) p. 11.
9. ibid., p. 39.
10. Culvenor (1995) pp 39-40, suggests Jack Goponi is probably Carlo Giupponi
who traveUed to Australia whh Carlo and Giuseppe Gervasoni on the
Harmonides in 1858 and later took up land in Yandoh Creek. Battista
Monyang is almost certainly Battista Nani: the Monyang name, unlikely for an
Italian, appears nowhere else in the affairs of Yandoit Creek.
12. ibid., p 11.
