FLOATING ISLAND
Other brands go even further in playing with composition and transparency effects.
The impressive baguette-type movement of the new Golden Bridge Tourbillon by
Corum provides fascinating views of its organs, including the world’s smallest
tourbillon carriage, measuring only 8.5mm in diameter. On the Royal Blue
Tourbillon by Ulysse Nardin, the sapphire bridges and mainplate create
the illusion that the mobile carriage is floating in a void. The same
impression prevails with the Horology H88 Flying Sculptura concept
watch by Beat Haldimann, which is also entirely hand-free and thus
entirely devoted to the perfectly regular vision of the passing of
time—a genuine work of art. On its Tourbillon Central Co-Axial
Platinum Skeleton watch, Omega has also chosen to create
a spectacular show. Placed in the center of the dial, the
tourbillon—with its platinum carriage—dominates the entire
COSC-certified movement. The hands are represented in
gold on sapphire discs that appear to be literally flying
through the air.
