A FLURRY OF TOURBILLONS
Another technical and aesthetic path explored by some
watchmakers is the multiplication of tourbillons within a single
watch. The Twin Rotating Tourbillons model by Breguet boasts
two independent tourbillons coupled by a differential gear
and fixed to a mainplate performing a complete rotation in
12 hours. These two mechanisms mutually compensate
for their infinitely small variations in rate in order to offer
superior precision. The Histoire de Tourbillon 1 watch
by Harry Winston is the first gem in a new series of five
extremely limited editions with just twenty models each.
This inaugural piece features a case made from white gold
and zalium, housing two ultra-light tourbillons set at a 25°
angle and performing one rotation in 36 seconds. In 2008,
after five years of development, Greubel Forsey presented a
Quadruple Tourbillon à différentiel, with two asymmetrical
double tourbillons linked by a spherical differential acting like
that of a car. The latest new release of this kind is Excalibur
Double Tourbillon by Roger Dubuis.
