How can one enliven a perpetual calendar model?<br />

By choosing a retrograde-type mechanism for one<br />

or several of <strong>the</strong> calendar indications, with a hand<br />

moving across <strong>the</strong> arc of a circle before jumping<br />

back to its point of departure (see <strong>the</strong> Retrograde<br />

Mechanisms and Jumping Hours chapter). Ano<strong>the</strong>r,<br />

much rarer, option is that of roller-type indications.<br />

This quest for originality paves <strong>the</strong> way for all<br />

manner of fanciful visual touches calling for a<br />

superlative degree of technical mastery.<br />
