cALENDARS HARRY WINSTON PREMIER PERPETUAL cALENDAR – REF. 200/MAPc41WL.W1 In 1989 Harry Winston introduced the first Bi-Retrograde Perpetual Calendar, sparking a revolution in contemporary watchmaking. Two decades later, this iconic design returns to center stage. The 41mm white-gold case has been reinvented with even more refinement, adding a subtle groove in the side to highlight its elegant contours, while maintaining the three signature arches. The off-center hours and minutes, retrograde months at 10:00, and retrograde date at 7:00 are arranged in a contemporary manner, while the understated leap-year and moonphase apertures are set opposite each other. Driven by a mechanical self-winding movement with a 45-hour power reserve, the Premier Perpetual Calendar is also available with a silvered dial. • 92 Grand Complications, Vol. VII
IWc ScHAFFHAUSEN DA VINcI PERPETUAL cALENDAR DIGITAL DATE MONTH – REF. IW376101 In 1884, IWC secured the rights to the Pallweber system developed by Joseph Pallweber and started producing the first “digital” watches in IWC's history. Rather than an analog display with hands, digits were presented in separate windows; only the seconds were shown via a hand. Now, 125 years later, IWC presents the Da Vinci Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month with large-figure digital displays for the date and the month. The power required to switch both month and date discs at the end of the month is accumulated over the course of the entire month in a quick-action switch specially developed for this purpose. At the end of the month, the energy is released and displays are advanced, even the digital leap year if necessary. The chronograph can run continuously without having any noticeable effect on the watch's rate and, thanks to the flyback function, can be reset to zero without being stopped. The new IWC-manufactured 89800 caliber consists of 474 individual parts and builds up a power reserve of 68 hours. The movement is a massive watchmaking achievement. Calendars 93 •
