tho' it is presumed that no considerable diminution will take<br />

place on account of the McKenzie's river returns.<br />

Salaries. The prices of the men's wages have increased considerably;<br />

a middle man gets now a thousand livres, Halifax currency,<br />

and a Bout, fourteen hundred; interpreters, from sixteen to two·<br />

thousand; clerks, from one hundred and fifty to two hundred<br />

pounds same currency. Some of the Hudson's Bay Company's<br />

clerks have three hundred pounds sterling, others less, and I<br />

believe few have more except those who are styled "Governors,"<br />

these have five hundred _ ....................................... ..<br />
