Left the entrance of the Red River and embarked on Lake 20th, MOll:<br />

Winipik at 10 A. M., the wind having abate d.-Camped at the<br />

Grand Marais, six leagues on our way from the entrance of the<br />

Red River.<br />

Left the Grand Marais at noon, Mr. Gl'ant's canoe turned into 27th,Tues:<br />

the Bay of the Indian Portage, but. I wen t straight for the usual<br />

one of Ite a la Biche, and arrived at the Sieur's Fort; (I) with a<br />

fair wind, an hour-before sunset; neither Mr. Grant, nor the<br />

canoes came.<br />

A stormy day ;-1 am much concerlled for Mr. Grant and the 28th, Wec!o<br />

canoes behind, for the wind fell and rose by intervals; it was<br />

calm apparently for two hours and, then, frightful gusts of<br />

wind came on a sudden.<br />
