day, rain forced us ashore a few points below the Little River.
Killed five cows and two buffalo calves and camped below the 4th, Sun:
fort of Mountain a la Bosse about two leagues.-Nextday, over-
100k and passed old Houle at the long point of the campment de
l'Etredeux (I ).-Cam ped below the Loge de Paille.
Passed the Rapid River. This day we passed about 400 bur- 6th, .Ttle, :
faloes drowned in the river. They lay on almost every point,
huddled together.-Arrived at Ange's River la Souris Fort; sun,
.an honr high. Auge has sad comlliaints againts his H. B. opponent,
Mr. ,Donald, alias Mad. McKay ............................ .
By order of Mr. Grant, I took down three or foul' or five de- 8th, Tbur:
·clarations of his own men against Mr. Donald McKay, in consequence
of which we took him prisoner for firing at Ange and
laying in ambush for his life. I was his guard and slept with
hini at night.
Mr. Grant allowed M. McKay, le malin, to go home, seal his 9th, Fri:
journal and write to his chief, Mr. McNabb. I went with him
and, according to his promise, he came back quietly with me.
-The canoes and boats arrived.-Finished markillg Auge's
packs, 43.

boats. Mr. Grant thought proper to release Mr. Donald McKay
-so we did not embark him-and he was so pleased with

Finished making the Pine Fort packs.-Arranged the men in 13th, Tu.:
the canoes and boats just in the same order they arrived here
last fall. The Indians in the lodges around the fort had a
