MAIN DUTIES OF THE REGULATORS<br />

GENERAL CHIROPRACTIC COUNCIL<br />

It shall be the duty <strong>of</strong> the General Council to develop <strong>and</strong> regulate the<br />

pr<strong>of</strong>ession <strong>of</strong> chiropractic. 1<br />

GENERAL DENTAL COUNCIL<br />

GENERAL MEDICAL COUNCIL<br />

The main objective <strong>of</strong> the General Council in exercising their<br />

functions is to protect, promote <strong>and</strong> maintain the health <strong>and</strong> safety <strong>of</strong><br />

the public. 2<br />

GENERAL OPTICAL COUNCIL<br />

The main objective <strong>of</strong> the Council in exercising such <strong>of</strong> the Council's<br />

functions as affect the health <strong>and</strong> safety <strong>of</strong> members <strong>of</strong> the public is<br />

to protect, promote <strong>and</strong> maintain the public’s health <strong>and</strong> safety. 3<br />

GENERAL OSTEOPATHIC COUNCIL<br />

It shall be the duty <strong>of</strong> the General Council to develop <strong>and</strong> regulate the<br />

pr<strong>of</strong>ession <strong>of</strong> osteopathy. 4<br />

GENERAL PHARMACEUTICAL COUNCIL<br />

The main objective <strong>of</strong> the Council (including its staff <strong>and</strong> committees)<br />

in exercising such <strong>of</strong> its functions as affect the health, safety or wellbeing<br />

<strong>of</strong> members <strong>of</strong> the public is to protect, promote <strong>and</strong> maintain<br />

the health, safety <strong>and</strong> well-being <strong>of</strong> members <strong>of</strong> the public, <strong>and</strong> in<br />

particular <strong>of</strong> those members <strong>of</strong> the public who use or need the<br />

services <strong>of</strong> registrants, or the services provided at a registered<br />

pharmacy, by ensuring that registrants, <strong>and</strong> those persons carrying<br />

on a retail pharmacy business at a registered pharmacy, adhere to<br />

such st<strong>and</strong>ards as the Council considers necessary for the safe <strong>and</strong><br />

effective practice <strong>of</strong> pharmacy. 5<br />
