2002 114 • An Augmented PYT of approximately 100 lines selected from the BCD47/Baronesse population will be grown at Pendleton. Cycle 3: Replicated yield trials 2001 • 6RYT - Facultative winter barley lines, selections from the introgression of stripe rust resistance genes into Colter, and selections form the ICARDA/CIMMY T program with malting barley parentage were grown at Pendleton, Pullman, and Aberdeen in replicated trials and at Klamath Falls and Moscow as single rep trials. Data are presented in Table 7. Malting quality data on these selections has not been received. • 2RYT - 56 entries from the Bu, Ajo, Ops, and Sal stripe rust resistance pyramids were grown at Pendleton, Pullman, and Aberdeen in replicated trials and at Klamath Falls and Moscow as single rep trials. Data are presented in Table 8. Malting quality data on these selections has not been received. 2002 • 2RYT – Selections from the Bu, Ajo, Ops, and Sal germplasm and selections from the crosses of BU, Ajo, Ops, and Sal with He6890 or BCD47 will be grown at Pendleton, Pullman, and Aberdeen in replicated trials and at Klamath Falls and Moscow as single rep trials. • RCSLYT - 20 entries from Hordeum vulgare subsp. spontaneum/Harrington project will grown at Pendleton, Aberdeen, Pullman, and Fort Collins. • 6RYT - 15 entries including winter facultative lines, CR/SR lines and Mexico selections will be grown at Pendleton, Pullman, and Aberdeen in replicated trials and at Klamath Falls and Moscow as single rep trials Cycle 4: Pre-release BCD 47 was dropped from the AMBA program due to high enzyme activity. This short stature, late season variety is not suitable for dryland production. Accordingly it cannot compete with Baronesse under dryland conditions. We had intended to assess its commercial potential under irrigation in the Klamath Basin, but we were not able to do so due to the lack of irrigation. These trials will be conducted in 2002. 115 • All lines in spring yield trials, except the Hordeum vulgare subsp. spontaneum/Harrington project were grown at Toluca, Mexico (in cooperation with H. Vivar and F. Capettini) and at Mt. Vernon (in cooperation with X. Chen) for stripe rust assessment. • The experiments were planted in the Fall of 2001 at UC Davis in cooperation with L. Jackson and L. Gallagher. The multiple resistance gene pyramids were assessed for seedling resistance by M. Johnson (Montana State University). Upcoming variety releases BCD47 • If the on-farm trials in the Klamath Basin are promising, we will pursue release as a feed variety. Sara • Sara is a 6-row, stripe rust-resistant hooded barley for forage production. Variety performance updates There was commercial production of Orca and Tango.
