In summary, we can <strong>see</strong> that over <strong>the</strong> course of <strong>the</strong> academic year, self-confidence<br />

that engineering was <strong>the</strong> right major for <strong>the</strong>m was streng<strong>the</strong>ned for a much higher<br />

proportion of female students than male students (Table IID-1). Almost a third of <strong>the</strong><br />

females increased <strong>the</strong>ir self-confidence in this respect from <strong>the</strong> beginning of <strong>the</strong> academic<br />

year <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> end of it, compared <strong>to</strong> less than 20% of <strong>the</strong> male students. In contrast, 23% of<br />

<strong>the</strong> male students decreased <strong>the</strong>ir agreement with <strong>the</strong> statement, compared <strong>to</strong> 11.5% of<br />

<strong>the</strong> female students. Similarly, self-confidence in <strong>the</strong>ir engineering abilities was<br />

streng<strong>the</strong>ned for a higher proportion of female than male students, while self-confidence<br />

in this respect was undermined for a higher proportion of male than female students.<br />
