As juniors begin <strong>the</strong> third year in <strong>the</strong> program, none of <strong>the</strong> background fac<strong>to</strong>rs have<br />

much impact on engineering self-confidence. More than a third of <strong>the</strong>se students have<br />

spent <strong>the</strong> summer in an engineering internship, o<strong>the</strong>rs have had a job related <strong>to</strong><br />

engineering, and <strong>the</strong>ir family or high school background apparently has less impact on<br />

<strong>the</strong>ir confidence in <strong>the</strong>mselves as engineers.<br />
