In addition <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong>se features, <strong>Rowan</strong> has more than <strong>the</strong> expected share of female<br />

role models in <strong>the</strong> Engineering College. More than 20% of <strong>the</strong> faculty is female – higher<br />

than <strong>the</strong> national average (<strong>see</strong>, for example, Farrell, 2002; Young, 2004), and <strong>the</strong> current<br />

Dean is female. There has been at least one female department chair. Fur<strong>the</strong>r, many of <strong>the</strong><br />

students who receive awards or make <strong>the</strong> Dean’s list are female. Female students make<br />

up a disproportionate percentage of <strong>the</strong> officers of <strong>the</strong> student chapters of professional<br />

organizations. In addition, <strong>the</strong>re is an active SWE (Society for Women Engineers)<br />
