Montana's Hydrogen Futures Project<br />

The goals of Montana’s Hydrogen Futures Project include:<br />

• Establishment of a H2 Futures Park at The University of Montana;<br />

• Establishment of statewide hydrogen production and distribution capabilities;<br />

• Leveraging hydrogen investments that create new hydrogen products,<br />

businesses and jobs;<br />

• Using hydrogen-generated resources that enhance Montana's infrastructure<br />

growth.<br />

The project’s goal is that by the year 2020, 50% of all vehicles and equipment and 100%<br />

of all state-run vehicles will be powered by alternative fuels; all intercity bus systems will<br />

use hydrogen; distribution of synthetic fuels and hydrogen will be provided for the<br />

trucking industry; a school bus retrofit and hydrogen power program will be established;<br />

and incentives will be provided for conversion of internal combustion engines to<br />

hydrogen.<br />

Montana Vision 2020 is a strategic initiative under the Hydrogen Futures Project to set in<br />

motion a plan that will establish Montana as an energy leader by setting target goals for<br />

the year 2020. The goals are intended to be comprehensive in scope. Goal areas<br />

include: (1) energy management and production; (2) air, water, land, and waste<br />

management; (3) transportation and vehicle development; and (4) energy-related<br />

economic development.<br />
