commercialization by sharing applied research with the Group’s industry collaborators.<br />
Wright Group researchers and industry collaborators will also have access to a new fuel<br />
cell testing building at the NASA Glenn Research Center and Stark State College of<br />
Technology’s new, $5.2 million <strong>Fuel</strong> Cell Prototyping Center.<br />
Academic collaborators include Case Western Reserve University, Ohio State<br />
University, Stark State College of Technology, the University of Toledo and Cleveland<br />
State University. Industry partners include American Electric Power; Battelle Memorial<br />
<strong>Institute</strong>; Dana Corporation; HydroGen LLC; Keithley Instruments; NexTech Materials<br />
Ltd.; Parker Hannifin Corporation; and SOFCo-EFS LLC. Battelle also will support the<br />
Wright Group’s commercialization efforts, along with EMTEC.<br />
Another function of the partnership is to connect Ohio businesses to the national and<br />
international fuel cell industry through its Board of Directors, which includes Ballard<br />
Power Systems, Energizer Holdings, Plug Power and Republic Engineered Products.<br />
In 2003 Case Western Reserve University received an $18 million grant from the State<br />
of Ohio to support the research, development and commercialization of fuel cells. The<br />
partnership also receives funding from public and private sectors.<br />

Third Frontier Project<br />

The Third Frontier project is Ohio’s 10-year, $1.6 billion endeavor to expand high-tech<br />
research capabilities, promote innovation, encourage company formation and create<br />
high-paying jobs in Ohio. Project goals are to:<br />
• Build world-class research capacity;<br />
• Support early stage capital formation and the development of new products;<br />
• Finance advanced manufacturing technologies to help existing industries become<br />
more productive; and<br />
• Attract additional federal and private sector support can boost the total investment<br />
to more than $6 billion.<br />
