the plebian political objectives and character of the Khalsa which<br />

was preserved even in that post-revolutionary period when the <strong>Sikh</strong><br />

movement had passed into a veiled autocracy and the orthodox caste<br />

ideology and made inroads into the <strong>Sikh</strong> society. Fortunately, the<br />

corroborative evidence from non-<strong>Sikh</strong> sources about the plebian<br />

political character of the movement (Chapter XI, XII and XVIII) is<br />

sufficient enough. And this feature of the <strong>Sikh</strong> Revolution proves<br />

ipso-facto the other main features of the movement as well. There<br />

could have been plebian <strong>Sikh</strong> political Revolution without the Khalsa<br />

having an egalitarian base. That means the <strong>Sikh</strong> Panth had carved out<br />

its way across caste barriers, and this very fact was enough to separate<br />

it from the caste society.
