Some Aspects of <strong>Sikh</strong> Ideology<br />

1. Human Equality<br />

Religion consisteth not in mere words;<br />

He who looketh on all men as equal is religious.<br />

(Macauliffe, i, p. 60)<br />

Call everyone exalted; let no one appear to thee low,<br />

The one God fashioned the vessels, and it is His light that ftlleth the<br />

three worlds.<br />

(Marauliffe i, p. 274)<br />

O whom shall we call good or evil;<br />

When ‘all creatures belong to Thee. (Guru Granth, p. 383)<br />

There is one father, we are His children;<br />

Thou art our Teacher. (Guru Granth, p. 611)<br />

2. Non-sectarian, Universal<br />

Some but call Thee Rama, while by others Thou art Known as Khuda.<br />

Yea;some Serve Thee as Gosain, others as Allah. (1)<br />

But, O Beneficent Lord, Thou art only the One Doer and the Cause.<br />

So Bless me Thou with Thy Mercy. (I-Pause)<br />

Some go to the (Hindus’) Pilgrim stations, others go to perform Hajj,<br />

Some offer Thee oblations, while others bow before Thee. (2)<br />

Some but read the Vedas, others the Western Texts,<br />

Yea, some are robed in white, others in blue. (3)<br />

Some are called Turks, others are termed Hindus,<br />

Some seek the (Hindus’) heaven, others the (Muslims’) Paradise. (4).
