groups <strong>of</strong> patients with complex, multiple systems disorders encountered in acute<br />
care settings. The clinical experience takes place in the hospital setting where<br />
students gain skills in the management <strong>of</strong> groups <strong>of</strong> patients, develop skills in<br />
providing leadership <strong>of</strong> health care personnel and demonstrate application <strong>of</strong> the<br />
nursing process as it relates to decision-making in the care <strong>of</strong> acutely ill clients.<br />
Prerequisites: Nurs 334 or permission <strong>of</strong> faculty. Offered spring semester.<br />
490 Nursing Senior Theory Seminar/Senior Thesis (3 credits) provides a<br />
forum for collegial support for senior students as they develop their senior thesis.<br />
The thesis provides senior students with the opportunity to analyze a<br />
concept/phenomenon <strong>of</strong> concern to nursing as a means for guiding nursing<br />
practice. The thesis is a project <strong>of</strong> substantial scope which demonstrates the<br />
students’ ability to integrate theory, research, and practice. Synthesis <strong>of</strong> the<br />
understanding <strong>of</strong> this relationship will form the basis <strong>of</strong> the fourth chapter <strong>of</strong> the<br />
thesis. Alternately, RN students who have completed Nursing Research with a<br />
grade <strong>of</strong> B or better may choose to participate in the hands-on conduct <strong>of</strong> a<br />
nursing research study. Prerequisites: Nurs 448, Math 108, Nurs 261 (RNs only)<br />
and attainment <strong>of</strong> Writing Level 3. Offered fall semester.<br />
491 Thesis Presentation (1 credit) provides a seminar setting in which<br />
students prepare for the public presentation <strong>of</strong> their theses. Prerequisite: Nurs<br />
490. Offered spring semester.<br />
495 Nursing Senior Internship (3 credits) provides the opportunity for the<br />
student to individually develop and implement a study program in an area <strong>of</strong><br />
specialized interest in nursing and assists the student in the transition from<br />
academe to the realities <strong>of</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>essional practice. This four week, independent,<br />
internship is planned in collaboration with a faculty member and an on-site<br />
supervisor. Prerequisite: One senior level theory and practicum nursing course.<br />

Intr 150 Life’s Choices: Ethical Issues in Healthcare (3 credits)<br />
Introduces students to a wide array <strong>of</strong> ethical dilemmas from multiple<br />
perspectives. Issues to be investigated during the course will be decided upon by<br />
the students, but may include autonomy, euthanasia, resource allocation,<br />
abortion, smoking, transplants, and cloning. Finances, laws, policies, patient and<br />
family beliefs (cultural and spiritual) will be explored related to their effect on the<br />
ethical decision-making process. Offered J-Term. (FYS)<br />
Intr 310 Health, Illness and Healing as Reflected through Film (3<br />
credits) allows the student to explore various theories and content related to<br />
health, illness, and healing. A variety <strong>of</strong> theoretical approaches will be examined<br />
through readings, discussion, and film. Experiences, as depicted through film<br />
(Wit, Philadelphia, A Beautiful Mind) and readings will be analyzed through<br />
application <strong>of</strong> theory and factual content. Various aspects such as culture,<br />
economics, values, gender, race, psychological impact, social impact, and ethics<br />
will be examined in the context <strong>of</strong> application to past and present times. Through<br />
examination <strong>of</strong> specific health and illness topics, the student will develop a<br />
greater understanding <strong>of</strong> health/disease entities and demonstrate an<br />
appreciation for the multiple components that influence health, illness and<br />
