Areas of Certification
At Hartwick, students do not major in education but complete a program for certification
coupled with a content major or major/minor combination. Hartwick offers education programs
leading to certification in Childhood (grades 1- 6), Middle Childhood (grades 5 – 9) and
Adolescence (grades 7-12) education, K-12 Music Education, and K-12 Art Education. The
Childhood Program requires a major and a minor (chosen from each A, B column below).
Students may also create their own minor, which must be approved by the Department of
Education.
