an increase in plasma bicarbonate, the lactic acid
would be minimally buffered by the body’s own
bicarbonate system, and the times to reach exhaustion
would all be similar. It was shown that oral glutamine
supplementation increased plasma bicarbonate
(Welborne, 1995). Also in the study conducted by
Welborne (1995), an increase in bicarbonate
concentrations was only one of the benefits of
glutamine supplementation.
