(A) Prosecutions under the Act, if any, and the attitude<br />

was satisfactory, as they rendered every assistance to the Enumerators.<br />

Vital statistics.—-Not collected in this district.<br />
(/) Emigration and immigration.— I do not consider this has been affected by roads,<br />
but is due to the steady yearly increase.<br />

<strong>Burma</strong>,—No. 1156-20H.— i, dated the 4th April <strong>1901</strong>.<br />
I HAVE the honour to forward a report on the <strong>Census</strong> operations <strong>of</strong> this district in accordance<br />
with Circular No. 24 <strong>of</strong> <strong>1901</strong> as follows:<br />
(a) Preparation <strong>of</strong> general village register and circle list.—Copies <strong>of</strong> the register<br />
were received here during the third week <strong>of</strong> April and distributed to the Subdivisional Officers<br />
the same week, with clear and definite instructions as to the proper and correct method <strong>of</strong><br />
preparing the same. * * * The completion <strong>of</strong> the register in July was followed by<br />
the preparation<br />

<strong>of</strong> circle lists by the Charge Superintendents and Supervisors in concert, which<br />
was got through with sufficient rapidity.<br />
(b) House-numbering.—-This was taken in hand on the 15th October in Kyaikto subdivision<br />
and completed on the 15th November. In Thaton subdivision it was begun on the 1st<br />
October <strong>1901</strong> and got through about the 16th November, while in Pa-an it started on the 1st<br />
November and<br />

ended on the 22nd December.<br />
(c) Agency employed.—Land Record Inspectors were appointed Charge Superintendents<br />
in their respective townships, while the revenue surveyors, taikthugyis, and ywathugyis<br />
were employed as Supervisors, and the ten-house gaungs and comparatively intelligent villagers<br />
were selected to undertake the work <strong>of</strong> enumeration.
