1 - INTRODUCTION TO ADMINISTRATION OF<br />

This course details the philosophy and history of law<br />
enforcement; overview of crime and police problems;<br />
organization and jurisdictional local, state and federal<br />
agencies. Survey of qualifications required.<br />
2 - CONCEPTS OF CRIMINAL LAW (3 UNITS)<br />
UC:CSU<br />
This course deals with the structure of law, definitions,<br />
and the most frequently used sections of the California<br />
Penal Code. Topics include origins of federal and state<br />
laws, interpretation and application of laws, identifying<br />
elements of property crimes and criminal liability.<br />
3 - LEGAL ASPECTS OF EVIDENCE (3 UNITS)<br />
CSU<br />
This course includes the kinds and degrees of evidence<br />
and the rules governing the admissibility of evidence<br />
in court<br />
5 - CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION (3 UNITS) CSU<br />
This course includes fundamentals of investigation, crime<br />
scene search and recording, collection and preservation<br />
of physical evidence, scientific aids, modus operandi,<br />
sources of information, interviews and interrogation, and<br />
follow-up and case preparation.<br />
6 - PATROL PROCEDURES (3 UNITS) CSU<br />
This course includes the responsibilities, techniques, and<br />
methods of police patrol procedures.<br />
7 - TRAFFIC CONTROL (3 UNITS) CSU<br />
The student in this course will study traffic law<br />
enforcement, regulation and control, fundamentals of<br />
traffic accident investigation, and the California Vehicle<br />
Code.<br />
8 - JUVENILE PROCEDURES (3 UNITS) CSU<br />
This course includes the organization, functions, and<br />
jurisdiction of the juvenile agencies, the processing and<br />
detention of juveniles, juvenile case disposition, juvenile<br />
status and court procedures.<br />
14 - REPORT WRITING FOR PEACE<br />
OFFICERS (3 UNITS) CSU<br />
Involved in this course are the study of and practice in<br />
various types of technical writing commonly used in<br />
police agencies, the appropriateness of different styles<br />
in different contexts and the conceptualization of the<br />
material, and the utilization of machine tabulation in<br />
reports and methods of reporting criminal statistics.<br />
16 - RECRUITMENT SELECTION PROCESS<br />
(3 UNITS) CSU<br />
This course provides an in-depth coverage of the<br />
legal selection process designed to assist student with<br />
employment in a law enforcement agency. Written and<br />
oral exam techniques and the agility exam are covered.<br />
The background investigation process is examined in<br />
detail.<br />
37 - CALIFORNIA CRIMINAL PROCEDURES I<br />
(3 UNITS) CSU<br />
This course includes a study of the history and<br />
organization of the court system, jurisdiction, arrest,<br />
search and seizure, bail, complaints and extradition.<br />
42 - ADVANCED CRIMINAL LAW (3 UNITS)<br />
CSU<br />
An in-depth study of the substantive law commonly<br />
encountered by the municipal, county, or state police<br />
officer or investigator or other criminal justice employee.<br />
The scope of the course includes misdemeanor and felony<br />
violations of the criminal statutes.<br />
67 - COMMUNITY RELATIONS I (3 UNITS)<br />
UC:CSU<br />
This course deals with the latest concepts in policecommunity<br />
relations and the events that created them.<br />
It covers the changing role of police in a society that is<br />
both dynamic and unprecedented. It touches upon the<br />
interplay of social mores, changing values, and urban<br />
crime as they relate to and affect traditional policecommunity<br />
positions.<br />
72 - CORRECTIONAL PROCEDURES (3 UNITS)<br />
CSU<br />
Current correctional procedures are studied in relation<br />
to prison/jail management, receiving prisoners, custody<br />
and security, supervision of prisoners, staff services,<br />
prisoner activities, custodial and juvenile facilities, duties<br />
in coordinating inmates appearances in court, and human<br />
relations in correctional facilities.<br />
