This course surveys the principles of microbiology and<br />
how they relate to the entire biological world and to<br />
humans. Topics include: chemistry of life, cell structure,<br />
metabolic processes, human infection and disease,<br />
immunology, molecular genetics, and microbe ecology.<br />
20U – GENERAL MICROBIOLOGY U (3 UNITS)<br />

40 - MICROBIOLOGY LABORATORY<br />
PREPARATIONS (1 UNIT) CSU - RPT 2<br />
Prerequisite or corequisite: Completion of Microbiology 020 with a<br />
grade of “C” or better, or concurrent enrollment.<br />
This course includes the preparation of culture media,<br />
indicators, reagents and stains; cleaning and care of<br />
glassware and bacteriological equipment; care, transfer<br />
and storage of culture organisms; and use of the autoclave.<br />
This course requires 3:10 hours per week of student lab<br />
work to be scheduled as arranged with instructor. 3:10 TBA<br />

101 - FUNDAMENTALS OF MUSIC (3 UNITS)<br />
UC:CSU<br />
This course provides the basic knowledge of music needed<br />
by the candidate for the Standard Elementary Teaching<br />
Credential. It is also offered for the non-music major who<br />
wishes to study the basic rudiments of music, including<br />
notation, scales, keys and intervals, chords and chord<br />
progressions.<br />
111 - MUSIC APPRECIATION I (3 UNITS)<br />

This course is an introduction to music and musical<br />
masterpieces. They are presented through lectures,<br />
reports, and recordings. The course is recommended for<br />
the general college student who wishes to improve his/her<br />
understanding of music.<br />
141 - JAZZ APPRECIATION (3 UNITS) UC:CSU<br />
This course is an introduction to music approached through<br />
the study of American jazz. An in-depth understanding<br />
of the music is developed by tracing historical, cultural,<br />
and political, as well as musical influences that shaped<br />
jazz. Recordings, video and concerts provide the musical<br />
experience.<br />
161 - INTRODUCTION TO ELECTRONIC MUSIC<br />
(3 UNITS) CSU<br />
This exploratory course emphasizes the application of<br />
technology in creating music. Technical, compositional,<br />
and performance skills utilizing synthesizers, computers,<br />
music related software applications and digital recording<br />
equipment are introduced and developed.<br />
165 - INTRODUCTION TO RECORDING ARTS<br />
(3 UNITS) CSU<br />
This course introduces the student to the basic principles<br />
of audio recording. Covered are basic principles of<br />
acoustics, multi-track recording, audio mixing, and effects<br />
processing.<br />
