48 - TECHNICAL MATHEMATICS I (3 UNITS)<br />

This course provides a review of arithmetic functions<br />

for all students. Topics covered are; whole numbers,<br />

fractions, ratios and percents, decimals, word problems<br />

and introduction to the scientific or engineering calculator.<br />

Operations involving addition, subtraction, multiplication<br />

and division are included.<br />

49 - TECHNICAL MATHEMATICS II (5 UNITS)<br />

This course in technical mathematics includes the<br />

operation of the calculator, signed numbers, powers of ten<br />

notation, operations with algebraic expressions, fractional<br />

expressions, functions, quadratic solutions, engineering<br />

& scientific notation, graphing, and application of<br />

mathematics to technical applications.<br />

50 - TECHNICAL MATHEMATICS III (5 UNITS)<br />

CSU<br />

Prerequisite: Completion of Computer Technology 060 or Engineering<br />

Technology 049 with a grade of “C” or better.<br />

This course in technical mathematics covers a review<br />

of algebraic concepts, powers of ten and scientific<br />

notation, metric system, algebraic expressions, algebraic<br />

equations, factoring equations containing fractions,<br />

function notations, graphing, special products and factors,<br />

exponents and radicals, quadratic equations, logarithmic<br />

equations, exponential equations, angles, complex<br />

numbers, triangles, trigonometric functions, solution of<br />

right triangles, trigonometric identities, phasors, complex<br />

operator, phasor algebra and applications of math to<br />

electronics.<br />

51 - TECHNICAL MATHEMATICS IV (5 UNITS)<br />

CSU<br />

Prerequisite: Completion of Engineering Technology 050 with a grade<br />

of “C” or better.<br />

This is an applied course using selected topics from<br />

analytic geometry and calculus with emphasis on<br />

electronic problems. Functional and average rate notations<br />

are developed to derive basic derivatives and integrals.<br />

Applications of differentiation and integration of algebraic,<br />

trigonometric, logarithmic, and exponential functions are<br />

stressed.<br />

81 - FABRICATION TECHNIQUES (1 UNIT) CSU<br />

- RPT 3<br />

This course provides laboratory experience in fabrication<br />

principles utilized in the electronics & computer<br />

technology fields. Topics included are: familiarization &<br />

usage of hand tools, basic lathe & milling machine tools,<br />

sheet metal tools, soldering techniques, wire wrapping,<br />

drilling/tapping procedures, and fabricating enclosures<br />

to specs. Students learn to use vernier calipers, corner<br />

notchers, pan & brake, drill press, band saw and belt<br />

sanders. Students complete lab projects to demonstrate<br />

their proficiency in basic fabrication techniques.<br />

ENGLISH<br />

21 - ENGLISH FUNDAMENTALS (3 UNITS) NDA<br />

(P/NP)<br />

Prerequisite: Completion of Developmental Communications 020<br />

with a grade of “C” or better, or appropriate score on assessment test.<br />

English 21 is an entry-level course which emphasizes<br />

improvement of writing skills, including grammar,<br />

punctuation, paragraph and short essay development.<br />

28 - INTERMEDIATE READING AND<br />

COMPOSITION (3 UNITS)<br />

Prerequisite: Completion of English 021 or English 073 with a grade<br />

of “P” or appropriate score on assessment test.<br />

English 28 is the final preparatory course in composition<br />

and critical reading. Emphasis is placed on a review of<br />

grammar, mechanics, and paragraph writing. Students<br />

will write essays on various rhetorical patterns and will be<br />

introduced to research techniques. It is designed to assist<br />

the student to make the transition to English 101.<br />

30 - READING FOR PLEASURE (3 UNITS)<br />

This course stresses reading for enjoyment of short stories,<br />

essays, poems, plays, and novels. In addition, students<br />

will develop reading and writing skills as well as learning<br />

vocabulary building techniques.<br />

31 - COMPOSITION AND CRITICAL READING<br />

(5 UNITS)<br />

Prerequisite: Completion of English 021 or English 073 with a grade<br />

of “P” or appropriate score on assessment test.<br />

English 31 is the final preparatory course in composition<br />

and critical reading. Emphasis is placed on a review of<br />

grammar, mechanics, and paragraph writing. Students will<br />

write essays using various rhetorical patterns and will be<br />

introduced to research techniques. This course prepares<br />

students for English 101 and serves as an alternative to<br />

English 28.<br />
