361 - COMMERCIAL PIANO TECHNIQUES<br />
WORKSHOP (2 UNITS) CSU RPT 3<br />
Prerequisite: Completion of Music 323 with a grade of “C” or better.<br />
This course offers the opportunity to develop the ability to<br />
play Jazz and related commercial styles at the piano. The<br />
student will improvise, read from lead sheets with chord<br />
symbols and read published song copies.<br />
385 - DIRECTED STUDY (3 UNITS) UC*:CSU<br />
By arrangement with instructor.<br />
Special studies will be undertaken with the guidance<br />
of weekly faculty meetings. Topics or projects must be<br />
approved by the faculty member in charge, and the course<br />
of study is to be submitted to the Humanities and Fine Arts<br />
Division Chairperson at the beginning of the semester.<br />

411 - ELEMENTARY VOICE I (2 UNITS) UC:CSU<br />
In this course the student receives guidance in the learning<br />
and presentation of several types and styles of solo<br />
song. Problems of tone production, breathing, diction,<br />
repertoire, and song interpretation are studied. The course<br />
is designed to meet the voice requirements for traditional<br />
and commercial music majors.<br />

requirements of music majors, and to provide voice<br />
instruction for candidates working toward teaching<br />

453 - MUSICAL THEATER REPERTOIRE FOR<br />
SINGERS (1 UNITS) CSU<br />
This course is designed to teach the fundamentals of voice<br />
as utilized in the musical theater. Instruction includes text,<br />
music character analysis of songs, basic body dynamics<br />
and interpretation of Broadway song literature. Students<br />
will prepare solo, duet and ensemble projects excerpted<br />
from standard works.<br />
511 - COLLEGIATE CHOIR (1 UNIT) UC:CSU -<br />
RPT 3<br />
The course consists of analysis, rehearsal, and performance<br />
of choral vocal music with or without accompaniment.<br />
Emphasis is placed on reading and interpreting musical<br />
scores, learning to perform without music, and developing<br />
professional attitudes toward performance. No audition<br />
required for enrollment.<br />
531 - PHILHARMONIC CHOIR (1 UNIT) UC:CSU<br />
- RPT 3<br />
This course is the study and performance of standard choral<br />
literature from all periods and styles. Public performances<br />
are given each semester. No audition required for<br />
enrollment.<br />
650 - BEGINNING GUITAR (2 UNITS) UC:CSU<br />
This course consists of basic instruction in guitar playing<br />
from the beginning level. It includes appropriate exercises<br />
to develop technical facility, material for sight reading, and<br />
study of basic chords and repertoire.<br />
651 - CLASSICAL GUITAR I (2 UNITS) UC:CSU<br />
Prerequisite: Completion of Music 650 or equivalent with a grade of<br />
“C” or better.<br />
This course is a continuation of Music 650. All aspects of<br />
guitar performance will be presented.<br />
652 - CLASSICAL GUITAR II (2 UNITS) UC:CSU<br />
Prerequisite: Completion of Music 651 with a grade of “C” or better.<br />
These courses are a continuation of Music 650 with<br />
emphasis placed upon repertoire. The students will develop<br />
their skills in all areas of classical guitar technique and<br />
repertoire.<br />
653 - CLASSICAL GUITAR III (2 UNITS) UC:CSU<br />
Prerequisite: Completion of Music 652 with a grade of “C” or better.<br />
Intermediate to advanced students probe deeper into<br />
analysis and performance practices of the classical<br />
guitarist. Compositions of greater harmonic and technical<br />
complexity are evaluated and performed.<br />
