Nursing, Provider No. 02152, for 54 contact hours.<br />

A foundation course in the practical use of Spanish for<br />

personnel serving the Spanish speaking community in<br />

health services.<br />

35 – SPANISH FOR SPANISH SPEAKERS I<br />

(5 UNITS) UC:CSU<br />

This course addresses the needs of the native Spanish<br />

speaking student. It focuses on the acquisition of a solid<br />

grammar base, vocabulary enrichment, spelling, reading,<br />

and writing skills. Also included is a study of linguistic<br />

variants in the Spanish language and of Spanish and Latin<br />

American literature, culture, and civilization.<br />

36 – SPANISH FOR SPANISH SPEAKERS II<br />

(5 UNITS) UC:CSU<br />

Prerequisite: Completion of Spanish 035 with a grade of “C” or<br />

better.<br />

This course is a continuation of Spanish 035. It completes<br />

the study of grammar, vocabulary, and continues the<br />

development of reading and writing skills. Further<br />

course study will be in linguistic variants in the Spanish<br />

language and of Spanish and Latin American literature,<br />

culture, and civilization.<br />

101 - SPANISH LANGUAGE LABORATORY<br />

(1 UNIT) CSU RPT 3 (P/NP)<br />

Concurrent enrollment in another Spanish class is required.<br />

An independent course in which students improve their<br />

reading, writing, speaking and comprehension skills by<br />

use of audio materials. Students must complete 25 hours.<br />

Allows students to pursue Directed Study in Spanish<br />

on a contract basis under the direction of a supervising<br />

instructor.<br />

Credit Limit: A maximum of 3 units in Directed Study may be taken<br />

SPEECH COMMUNICATION<br />

14 – RADIO AND TELEVISION PRODUCTION<br />

(4 UNITS) RPT 3 – CSU<br />

This course offers practical training in multimedia<br />

production. Special emphasis is placed on broadcast<br />

communications, news casting, on camera performance,<br />

storyboarding, editing, light principles, audio and other<br />

multimedia communication skills.<br />

101 - ORAL COMMUNICATION I (3 UNITS)<br />

UC:CSU<br />

The purpose of this course is to train the student in<br />

critical thinking, research, and the organization of<br />

ideas presented in discussion and original speeches. To<br />

accomplish this purpose, students receive instruction and<br />

practical experience in audience analysis and adaptation,<br />

critical listening and evaluation. The entire course is<br />

designed to emphasize personal growth through effective<br />

oral communication. Public speaking is especially<br />

recommended for students who plan to enter the fields<br />

of salesmanship, law, teaching, or the ministry. It is a<br />

valuable part of leadership training.<br />

102 - ORAL COMMUNICATION II (3 UNITS)<br />

UC:CSU<br />

This course will emphasize speechmaking with an<br />

emphasis on using multimedia communications and<br />

current presentation technology. Students will learn<br />

effective content and organizational strategies and<br />

professional visual aids strategies. Students will develop<br />

proficiency in a variety of speech contexts including<br />

political and forensic oratory.<br />

104 - ARGUMENTATION I (3 UNITS) UC:CSU<br />

This course trains students in the theory and practice<br />

of collegiate debating. It includes a study of the<br />

fundamentals of logical thinking, the techniques of<br />

developing constructive arguments and refutation, and<br />

the methods of evaluating effective delivery.<br />
