HISTORY OF THE UNITED STATES I (3 UNITS)<br />

UC Credit is allowed in only one of History 043, 041, or 011.<br />
This course surveys U.S. History from the early colonial<br />
era through the Civil War focusing on the contribution<br />
of the Mexican-American. This course meets California<br />
State University requirements for United States History<br />
and the Constitution.<br />
44 - THE MEXICAN-AMERICAN IN THE<br />
HISTORY OF THE UNITED STATES II (3 UNITS)<br />
UC:CSU<br />
UC Credit is allowed in only one of History 044, 402, or 012.<br />
History 043 is not a prerequisite for this course.<br />
This course surveys United States history from 1877 to the<br />
present with emphasis on the contribution of the Mexican-<br />
American. Also included is a unit on California state<br />
government, the state constitution, and local governmental<br />
structures and issues. The course meets the California State<br />
University requirement for United States history.<br />
52 - THE ROLE OF WOMEN IN THE HISTORY<br />
OF THE U.S. (3 UNITS) UC:CSU<br />
This course is a survey of women’s roles throughout U.S.<br />
History focusing on the influence of race, ethnicity, and<br />
status on women’s experience. This course meets the<br />
California State University requirement for United States<br />
History.<br />
74 - ASIAN CIVILIZATION (3 UNITS) UC:CSU<br />
This course surveys the social, political, and economic<br />
evolution of Asia from the pre-history period to the present.<br />
Regions studied in the course include South, Southeast<br />
and East Asia.<br />
81 – A HISTORY OF WORKING PEOPLE IN THE<br />
UNITED STATES I (3 UNITS) UC:CSU<br />
This course studies the history of American labor from the<br />
colonial era through Reconstruction. Colonial development,<br />
revolution, the early republic, the ante-bellum period, the<br />
Civil War and Reconstruction are viewed through the eyes<br />
of America’s multicultural working people. Emphasis<br />
is also placed upon the defining role of the American<br />
Constitution and its impact upon labor.<br />
82 – THE HISTORY OF WORKING PEOPLE IN<br />
THE UNITED STATES II (3 UNITS) UC:CSU<br />
This course focuses on working people in the history of<br />
the United States from Reconstruction to the present.<br />
Issues of class, gender, and race within the context of<br />
work and the influence of organizations and collective<br />
action will be emphasized. The defining role of the<br />
American Constitution and its impact upon labor will also<br />
be examined.<br />
86 - INTRODUCTION TO WORLD<br />
CIVILIZATION I (3 UNITS) UC:CSU<br />
This course is an introductory survey of world civilization<br />
up to 1500 including a comparative study of the social,<br />
economic, and political formations and their interaction.<br />
Major topics include development of major civilizations,<br />
migration and settlement patterns, religion, philosophy,<br />
and technology.<br />
87 - INTRODUCTION TO WORLD<br />
CIVILIZATION II (3 UNITS) UC:CSU<br />
This course surveys world civilization from 1500 to the<br />
present time. Major topics include the development of the<br />
nation-state, economic systems, industrialization, global<br />
conquest, colonization, and revolution.<br />
385 - DIRECTED STUDY HISTORY (3 UNITS)<br />
UC*:CSU<br />
This course allows students to pursue Directed Study<br />
in History on a contract basis under the direction of a<br />
supervising instructor.<br />
* UC credit may be granted by petition after transfer.<br />
Credit Limit: A maximum of 3 units in Directed Study may be taken<br />
for credit.<br />

1 - CULTURAL PATTERNS OF WESTERN<br />
CIVILIZATION (3 UNITS) UC:CSU<br />
This is an interdisciplinary course which covers the arts<br />
and ideas of humanity. Mythology, literature, painting,<br />
sculpture, architecture, and music are studied in relation to<br />
their medium, organization and style. Emphasis is placed<br />
on the Western cultural heritage, values and perspectives<br />
as revealed in the arts.<br />
