345 - NURSING PROCESS AND PRACTICE IN THE<br />
CARE OF THE ADULT CLIENT III (3 UNITS) CSU<br />
Prerequisite: “LVN-30 unit” option: Admission to Nursing Program<br />
and completion Nursing 339 with a grade of “C” or better.<br />
LVN Advanced Placement: As above AND completion of required<br />
2nd and/or 3rd semester nursing program courses and cognates, and<br />
Sociology 1 or Anthropology 102 with grades of “C” or better.<br />
Generic: As above, AND completion of all previous semester nursing<br />
courses and cognates with grade of “C” or better.<br />
This modularized course provides theoretical knowledge<br />
correlated with clinical experience in the care of complex<br />
adult medical-surgical clients with cardio-pulmonary and<br />
multi-system insufficiencies. The Roy Adaptation Model<br />
and Nursing Process are used to plan and implement care.<br />
Clinical experiences utilize critical care units. Theory<br />
content from previous nursing courses and required<br />
cognates are synthesized.<br />
347 - LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT (3 UNITS)<br />
CSU<br />
Prerequisite: For lecture: Grade “C” or better in all required nursing<br />
courses and cognates listed in the Nursing curriculum for the selected<br />
route.<br />
For Lab: Completion of the Nursing 347 lecture component with a grade<br />
of “C” or better and a grade of “C” or better in Nursing 343 and 345.<br />
Non-traditional schedule: Lecture 10 hours scheduled over 12 weeks<br />
(0.5 units), plus a final examination and laboratory 36-48 hours per<br />
week for 3½ to 4 weeks for a total of 136 passing clinical hours (2.5<br />
units).<br />
This course includes historical perspectives, current<br />
issues, and legal, ethical, professional, and practice<br />
factors important to nursing. Leadership, management,<br />
and communication factors pertinent to client care are<br />
discussed. A four week full-time clinical preceptorship<br />
utilizing selected R.N. preceptors is performed in acute<br />
hospital settings.This course requires 18:00 hours per<br />
week of student lab work to be scheduled as arranged with<br />

OCEANOGRAPHY<br />
1 - INTRODUCTION TO OCEANOGRAPHY<br />
(3 UNITS) UC:CSU<br />
This course introduces the student to the field of<br />
oceanography. Major topics to be studied include the<br />
formation and features of the sea floor, islands and<br />
coastlines, properties of sea water, motions of the sea<br />
(waves, tides and currents), and marine life. Special<br />
reference is made to California and the problems of human<br />
uses of the sea. Field trips to marine areas of southern<br />
California are made.<br />
10 - PHYSICAL OCEANOGRAPHY LABORATORY<br />
(2 UNITS) UC:CSU<br />
Prerequisite or corequisite: Completion of Oceanography 001 with a<br />
grade of “C” or better or concurrent enrollment.<br />
This course supplements Oceanography 1 by providing<br />
introductory practical experience in measurements, and<br />
quantitative analytical skills in oceanography. Major topics<br />
include navigational charts, scientific graphs, bathymetric<br />
contours and profiles, properties of seawater, waves,<br />
tides, atmospheric phenomena, coastal features, marine<br />
pollution, and sediments.<br />
Field trips to coastal southern California are made.<br />
12 - LECTURES IN MARINE BIOLOGY (3 UNITS)<br />
UC:CSU<br />
This course investigates the inter-tidal and offshore<br />
habitats. Included in the course is the study of marine<br />
plants and animals; their morphology, physiology,<br />
symbiotic relationships, ecology and issues of pollution<br />
and economic uses. Field trips and special projects are<br />
among the many class activities.<br />

1 - INTRODUCTION TO COLLEGE (1 UNIT)<br />
- RPT 1 CSU<br />
The purpose of this course is to provide information which<br />
will help the student to succeed in college work. Emphasis<br />
is placed on proper study techniques, note-taking methods,<br />
and procedures for preparing college papers and reports.<br />
The student learns about the college, its administrative<br />
organization, its plans and facilities for education, and its<br />
services to the student. All phases of college activity are<br />
presented.<br />
