PHYSIOLOGY<br />

001U - INTRODUCTION TO HUMAN<br />

PHYSIOLOGY LECTURE (3 UNITS) UC:CSU<br />

Prerequisite and/or corequisite: Completion of Chemistry 065,<br />

066, 101 or one year of high school chemistry with a grade of “C”<br />

or better. Required: Concurrent enrollment in a lecture and a<br />

laboratory section.<br />

An introduction to principles of human physiology from<br />

chemical/cellular to system levels of organization with<br />

an emphisis on the maintenance of homeostasis by the<br />

various organ systems. Success in human physiology<br />

is enhanced by prior background of human anatomy.<br />

This course meets the prerequisite for pre-nursing or<br />

preparation for allied-health occupations. Physiology<br />

1 mmets the California Nursing Board Standards for<br />

credit as Continuing Education for Registered Nurses<br />

and is approved for 80 hours of Continuing Education<br />

creditunder provider number 02152. Completion of<br />

Anatomy 1 with physiology constitutes one option for<br />

fulfilling requirements in the R.N. program.<br />

A material fee is required.<br />

001L - INTRODUCTION TO HUMAN<br />

PHYSIOLOGY LAB (1 UNIT) UC:CSU<br />

Prerequisite and/or corequisite: Completion of Chemistry 065,<br />

066, 101 or one year of high school chemistry with a grade of “C”<br />

or better. Required: Concurrent enrollment in a lecture and a<br />

laboratory section.<br />

This laboratory course provides a basic understanding<br />

of the physiological processes with a focus on the<br />

human body. Basic concepts of cell structure, membrane<br />

transport and membrane potential are integrated<br />

within the concept of homeostasis involving various<br />

body systems: nervous, sensory, endocrine, muscular,<br />

cardiovascular, immune, respiratory, excretory, digestive<br />

and respiratory.<br />

POLITICAL SCIENCE<br />

1 - THE GOVERNMENT OF THE UNITED<br />

STATES (3 UNITS) UC:CSU<br />

This is an introductory course in the principles and<br />

problems of the government in the national, state,<br />

and local areas. This course meets California State<br />

University requirements for United States Constitution<br />

and California state and local government.<br />

2 - MODERN WORLD GOVERNMENTS<br />

(3 UNITS) UC:CSU<br />

This course is an introduction to the comparative study<br />

of government and politics. The course examines<br />

similarities and differences in political institutions,<br />

political processes, and public policy across diverse states<br />

and regions of the world. Emphasis is on Great Britain,<br />

France, Germany Russia, and Asian, Latin American or<br />

African governments such as Japan, Mexico and Nigeria.<br />

4 - INTRODUCTION TO STATE AND LOCAL<br />

GOVERNMENTS (3 UNITS) CSU<br />

This general survey course introduces the student to<br />

the various functions, structures and services of state<br />

governments, their relations to local governments, and<br />

their interrelationships with the federal government.<br />

7 - CONTEMPORARY WORLD AFFAIRS<br />

(3 UNITS) UC:CSU RPT 1<br />

This course analyzes political, historical, geographic,<br />

economic and strategic factors that underlie conflict<br />

and cooperation among nation-states, international<br />

organizations, and other political actors in the international<br />

system. Emphasis is on international relations theories,<br />

processes and policies.<br />

30 - THE POLITICAL PROCESS (3 UNITS)<br />

UC:CSU<br />

This course surveys the nature and foundation of the<br />

democratic order. Specific focus is placed on traditional<br />

democratic theory, the contrasting philosophies of the<br />

Framers of the Constitution, and the impact of the<br />

decentralized, federal structure on the political processes<br />

of the United States.<br />

41 - PRINCIPLES OF STUDENT LEADERSHIP<br />

(2 UNITS) CSU - RPT 1<br />

This course surveys the nature and foundation of the<br />

385 - DIRECTED STUDY POLITICAL SCIENCE<br />

By arrangement with instructor.<br />

This course allows students to pursue Directed Study in<br />

the field of Political Science on a contract basis under<br />

direction of the instructor. The student’s writing will<br />

analyze the policymaking process in the policy area<br />

chosen, including the definition of a problem, placement<br />
