This course represents an overview of global environmental<br />
concerns, conservation history, and environmental ethics<br />
is presented. Ecology, population biology and their<br />
application to environmental problems is reviewed.<br />
Pollution and its effects on ecosystems are discussed.<br />
Management of natural resources is explored.<br />

21 - NUTRITION (3 UNITS) UC:CSU<br />
The relationship between diet and health is emphasized.<br />
The functions, sources, and interrelationships of nutrients<br />
are explored. Current topics including heart disease,<br />
cancer, diabetes, osteoporosis, weight management, and<br />
sports nutrition are investigated. Nutritional status and<br />
body fat composition are assessed by computer analysis.<br />

FINANCE<br />
2 - INVESTMENTS (3 UNITS) CSU<br />
This is a first course in investments. It focuses on both<br />
individual securities and portfolios. The course will give<br />
students the information they need to plan, implement<br />
and manage a successful investment program. It provides<br />
students with a solid foundation of basic concepts, tools<br />
and techniques of popular investment vehicles - common<br />
stocks, bonds, preferred stocks, convertible securities and<br />
mutual funds.<br />
8 -PERSONAL FINANCE AND INVESTMENTS<br />
(3 UNITS)CSU<br />
This course provides the student with financial fundamentals<br />
to manage personal income and expenditures. It outlines<br />
the indicators in everyday communications that help the<br />
individual make sound financial decisions to structure<br />
reasonable financial goals and plans. Emphasis on<br />
budgeting, credit, homeownership, risk management and<br />
the individual’s personal balance sheet and net worth.<br />
FIRE TECHNOLOGY<br />
201 - FIRE PROTECTION ORGANIZATION<br />
(3 UNITS) CSU<br />
This course provides an overview to fire protection;<br />
career opportunities in fire protection and related fields;<br />
philosophy and history of fire protection/service; fire<br />
loss analysis; organization and function of public and<br />
private fire protection services; fire departments as part of<br />
local government; laws and regulations affecting the fire<br />
service; fire service nomenclature; specific fire protection<br />
functions; basic fire chemistry and physics; introduction<br />
to fire protection systems; introduction to fire strategy<br />
and tactics.<br />
202 - FIRE PREVENTION (3 UNITS) CSU<br />
This course provides fundamental information regarding<br />
the history and philosophy of fire prevention, organization<br />
and operation of a fire prevention bureau, use of fire<br />
codes, identification and correction of fire hazards, and<br />
the relationships of fire prevention with built-in fire<br />
protection systems, fire investigation, and fire and lifesafety<br />
education.<br />
203 - FIRE PROTECTION EQUIPMENT AND<br />
SYSTEMS (3 UNITS) CSU<br />
Prerequisite: Completion of Fire Technology 001 with a grade of “C” or<br />
better, or professional firefighting or related experience or equivalent.<br />
This course provides information relating to the features of<br />
design and operation of fire detection and alarm systems,<br />
heat and smoke control systems, special protection and<br />
sprinkler systems, water supply for fire protection and<br />
portable fire extinguishers.<br />
204 - BUILDING CONSTRUCTION FOR FIRE<br />
PROTECTION (3 UNITS) CSU<br />
This course covers fundamental building construction and<br />
design as it relates to fire safety. Emphasis is placed on the<br />
fire protection features of buildings. Information is given<br />
on related codes and ordinances and their evolution and<br />
on plan checking.<br />
205 - FIRE BEHAVIOR AND COMBUSTION<br />
(3 UNITS) CSU<br />
This course covers the theory and fundamentals of how<br />
and why fires start, spread, and are controlled. An indepth<br />
study of fire chemistry and physics, of the fire<br />
characteristics of materials; of extinguishing agents; and<br />
of fire control techniques.<br />
