STUDENT SERVICES<br />

Student handbooks/planners are available in the bookstore.<br />

Assessment Center<br />

The assessment test is required for all students who wish to enroll<br />

in English and/or math classes, and who are pursuing an Associate<br />

Degree or plan to transfer to a four-year university. Students may<br />

schedule an appointment to take the assessment test at http://www.<br />

lahc.edu/sars/assessment/eSARS.asp or by calling (310) 233-4072.<br />

Walk-in testing is also available. For more details, please see the<br />

Assessment Center website http://www.lahc.edu/studentservices/<br />

matriculation/assessment.html. Prerequisites completed at another<br />

college must be cleared by the Counseling Office. An official or<br />

unofficial transcript is required for this purpose. Some science classes<br />

have prerequisites that need approval as well. Please see the class<br />

schedule to see if the class requires a prerequisite.<br />

Bookstore<br />

Books and supplies are housed in the college bookstore located on<br />

the first floor of the Sea Hawk Center and is open, when classes are in<br />

session, according to the hours posted. Used books are purchased “as<br />

is” and the bookstore assumes no responsibility for their condition.<br />

Bookstore - Regular Schedule:<br />

Monday thru Thursday 8:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m.<br />

Friday 8:00 a.m.- 1:00 p.m.<br />

Closed Saturdays and Sundays<br />

Policy For Personal Checks and Credit Cards<br />

Personal Imprinted Checks are accepted for the amount of purchase<br />

only. Two (2) ID’s are required:<br />

• Current <strong>Harbor</strong> <strong>College</strong> registration fee receipt, or<br />

• Current <strong>Harbor</strong> <strong>College</strong> student identification card; and<br />

• Valid California Drivers License or California ID.<br />

Checks are to be made out to <strong>Harbor</strong> <strong>College</strong> Bookstore. No out<br />

of L.A. County or Out Of State checks will be accepted. Visa,<br />

MasterCard, and Discover card are accepted if the card holder is<br />

present to sign and shows a California Driver’s License or California<br />

Picture I.D.<br />

Bookstore Refund Policy<br />

Textbooks are eligible for refund under the following conditions:<br />

1. All textbooks being returned must be accompanied<br />

by a current dated cash register sales receipt issued<br />

by the Bookstore. No exceptions.<br />

2. Textbooks must be returned within the first 5 days<br />

of the Fall and Spring semesters and within the first<br />

5 days of an Intersession and short-term classes.<br />

Holidays, Saturdays and Sundays are not considered<br />

school days.<br />

3. Textbooks must be returned in the same condition<br />

as when purchased. New books must be free of any<br />

markings, underlinings, soil marks or erasures, and all<br />

pages must be intact. Used textbooks must be returned<br />

in a resalable condition for refund, and all pages must<br />

be intact. Determination of the condition of new or<br />

used textbooks will be made by the bookstore staff.<br />

4. New textbooks returned with minor marks or damages<br />

may be refunded at a maximum of 75% of their retail<br />

price during the refund period.<br />

5. Textbooks purchased after the 5th school day must<br />

be returned within 24 hours and be accompanied by<br />

a current dated cash register sales receipt to be given<br />

a refund.<br />

6. Textbooks failing to meet the refund policy will be<br />

considered used and will be governed by the used<br />

book policy.<br />

7. Trade paperbacks, study guides, dictionaries and<br />

workbooks must be returned within 24 hours and in<br />

an unused, clean and resalable condition for refund.<br />

No refund will be given on syllabus.<br />

8. Refunds or exchanges will not be allowed on text<br />

books purchased during the last 2 weeks of the<br />

semester.<br />

Supplies are eligible for refund under the following conditions:<br />

• Items required as materials for certain classes will<br />

be refunded the first 5 days of the Fall and Spring<br />

semesters and within the first 5 days of an Intersession.<br />

Items must be in new condition and accompanied by<br />

a current dated cash register sales receipt.<br />

• No refund is given on safety goggles and other<br />

personal clothing which are governed by California<br />

Health Laws.<br />

• No refunds will be made on computer disks of any<br />

type.<br />
