327 -PATIENT CARE MANAGEMENT I (2 UNITS)<br />
CSU-RPT 1<br />
Prerequisite: Completion of Nursing 311, 313, 315, and 321 with a grade<br />
of “C” or better and eligibility for the second semester, or admitted<br />
to the program advanced placement and completed one semester of<br />
clinical course work with a grade of “C” or better. Repeat: Eligible for<br />
4th semester of nursing program.<br />
This elective course will increase proficiency in the use<br />
of the nursing process and Roy Adaptation Model for the<br />
administration of client care. The clinical focus of care of<br />
clients with physiological mode problems will increase<br />
competency in client care management. Client care may<br />
include practice in specialty areas already successfully<br />
completed prior to this course. Staff preceptors may be<br />
used.<br />
329A - ROLE TRANSITION LVN TO RN (1 UNIT)<br />
CSU<br />
Prerequisites: Current LVN license or experience in nursing permitting<br />
advanced placement in nursing program. Concurrent enrollment in<br />
Nursing 321 recommended.<br />
This course is designed to assist the LVN to make a<br />
successful transition to the RN nursing student role.<br />
Lecture content will focus on resources available, role<br />
development, learning styles, and physical assessment.<br />
LVN and RN scope of practice and roles, and medication<br />
calculations.<br />
329B - ROLE TRANSITION LVN TO RN (1 UNIT)<br />
CSU<br />
Prerequisites: Completion of Nursing 329A with a grade of “C” or<br />
better. Current LVN license or experience in nursing permitting<br />
advanced placement in the Nursing program. Concurrent enrollment<br />
in Nursing 311 recommended.<br />
Continues with content to assist the LVN to make a<br />
successful transition to the role of RN nursing student.<br />
Content focuses critical thinking, documentation,<br />
nursing process, and calculation and administration of IV<br />
piggyback medications.<br />
333 - NURSING PROCESS AND PRACTICE IN THE<br />
HEALTH CARE OF WOMEN AND OF FAMILIES<br />
DURING CHILDBEARING (3 UNITS) CSU<br />
Prerequisite: Completion of all program prerequisites and a grade of<br />
“C” or better in all first year Nursing Program courses OR admission<br />
through the Advanced Placement LVN to RN route, and grade “C” or<br />
better in Anatomy I, Physiology 1, Microbiology 1 or 20, Psychology<br />
1, Psychology 41 and English 101.<br />
Students experience includes both theory and practice<br />
in meeting the health care needs of women, and of<br />
families during childbearing. Psycho-social as well<br />
as physiological nursing concepts, including cultural,<br />
emotional, developmental, and environmental are<br />
emphasized. Settings include hospitals, clinics, and parent<br />
education classes.<br />
335 - NURSING PROCESS AND PRACTICE IN THE<br />
CARE OF CHILDREN (3 UNITS) CSU<br />
Prerequisites: Completion of all program prerequisites and a grade<br />
of “C” or better in first year Nursing courses, or admission through<br />
the Advanced Placement LVN to RN route, and a grade “C” or better<br />
in Anatomy 1, Physiology 1, Microbiology 1 or 20, Psychology 1,<br />
Psychology 41 and English 101.<br />
Through the utilization of developmental theories<br />
(primarily Erikson & Piaget) and the Roy Adaptation<br />
Model of Nursing, this course focuses on the assessment,<br />
identification and nursing interventions of the<br />
biopsychosocial problems of children and their families.<br />
Nursing action is directed toward the integration of growth<br />
and development principles in the care of the child in<br />
relation to health-illness continuum. The student will<br />
contribute to the development of an optimal environment<br />
of the child in the hospital setting, in clinics, and in school<br />
facilities<br />
339 - NURSING PROCESS AND PRACTICE IN THE<br />
CARE OF THE GERIATRIC CLIENT (2 UNITS) CSU<br />
Prerequisite: Completion of all program prerequisites and completion<br />
of Nursing 333 and 335 and preceding nursing courses, all with a<br />
grade of “C” or better, OR admission to Nursing Program “LVN-30<br />
unit option route.<br />
This course focuses on the Geriatric client, integrating<br />
content of the Roy Adaptation Model and the Nursing<br />
Process as well as the Roles of Practice. Clinical facilities<br />
include LTC facilities and Home Health Agencies. A more<br />
advanced role of the nurse is emphasized. Intravenous<br />
therapy is introduced in the course.<br />
343 - NURSING PROCESS AND PRACTICE IN THE<br />
PSYCHO-SOCIAL ADAPTATION OF THE CLIENT<br />
(3 UNITS) CSU<br />
Prerequisite: “LVN-30 unit” option: Admission to Nursing Program<br />
and completion of Nursing 339 with a grade of “C” or better.<br />
LVN Advanced Placement: As above AND completion of required 2nd<br />
and/or 3rd semester nursing program courses and cognates, Sociology<br />
1 or Anthropology 102 with grades of “C” or better.<br />
Generic: As above, AND completion of all previous semester nursing<br />
courses and cognates with grade of “C” or better.<br />
This course is designed to provide neurobiopsychosocial<br />
theoretical knowledge correlated with clinical experience<br />
in planning and administering evidence-based nursing<br />
care to the psychiatric client in the acute care setting.<br />
The Roy Adaptation Model is utilized as a framework<br />
for assessment within the Nursing Process for client care.<br />
