Learning Foundations<br />
1 - READING (3 UNITS) RPT 3 - NDA<br />
Students will receive individualized, small group and<br />
computer assisted instruction based on diagnostic<br />
assessment results. Modules in decoding, comprehension<br />
and textbook reading skills are prescribed in order to<br />
strengthen skills necessary for success in other college<br />
classes.<br />
This course requires 3:40 hours per week of student lab<br />

41 - STUDY STRATEGIES FOR STUDENTS WITH<br />
LEARNING DISABILITIES (3 UNITS) RPT 2 NDA<br />
This course will help students with identified learning<br />
disabilities to develop strategies to cope with the<br />
demands of the regular classroom environment. Such<br />
strategies include organization, self awareness, time<br />
management, note-taking, test-taking, listening and<br />
textbook comprehension skills.<br />

101 - LIBRARY RESEARCH METHODS (1 UNIT)<br />

This is a practical course in the use of libraries in general<br />
and academic libraries in particular. The student will<br />
learn efficient use of library resources, in both print and<br />
computer form, for researching information for class<br />
assignments and papers, and for personal use. Skills<br />
acquired will be of life-long benefit.This course requires<br />
2:05 hours per week of student lab work to be scheduled<br />

102 - INTERNET RESEARCH METHODS (1 UNIT)<br />

Recommended: Knowledge of Windows: Basic<br />
keyboarding skills.<br />
This course will focus on how to find and evaluate<br />
information and resource materials on the Internet, using<br />
a variety of applications. Principles of information access,<br />
development of search strategies, evaluation criteria and<br />
processes, and specific search tools will be covered. Issues<br />
regarding intellectual property, censorship, and on-line<br />
publishing will be discussed. This course requires 2:05<br />
hours per week of student lab work to be scheduled as<br />

2 - ORGANIZATION AND MANAGEMENT<br />
THEORY (3 UNITS) CSU<br />
This course covers management organization and<br />
authority. Students learn to effectively communicate with<br />
and motivate employees. Students will understand the<br />
processes of hiring, evaluating, promoting and terminating<br />
personnel. Students will study the basic objectives, theory,<br />
and principles of management decision making.<br />
13 - SMALL BUSINESS ENTREPRENEURSHIP<br />
(3 UNITS) CSU<br />
This course covers the essentials of the successful start<br />
up and management of a small business. Store location,<br />
layout, organization, merchandise control, buying, pricing,<br />
advertising, government regulations, labor relations, public<br />
relations, and other phases of small business are studied.<br />
Particular emphasis is placed on entrepreneurship and<br />
business start-ups.<br />
31 - HUMAN RELATIONS FOR EMPLOYEES<br />
(3 UNITS) CSU<br />
This course assists students in developing and improving<br />
traits desirable for success in business. Emphasis is<br />
placed on techniques to insure good human relations with<br />
individuals or groups. Effective study methods, work<br />
organizations, career planning, and the ability to present<br />
oneself to an employer for employment or advancement<br />
are included.<br />
33 – PERSONNEL MANAGEMENT (3 UNITS)<br />
CSU<br />
Human resource management techniques and procedures<br />
are studied. Topics included are selection, placement,<br />
testing, orientation, counseling, merit rating, promotion,<br />
transfer, training, and fringe benefits.<br />
