229 - BODY CONDITIONING<br />

This course is designed to provide students with a fitness<br />

foundation through the means of cardio respiratory<br />

endurance training, muscular strength, endurance training,<br />

and flexibility exercises using different modes of exercise.<br />

A student will be given a fitness assessment profile and<br />

then will develop an individualized exercise prescription.<br />

Student progress of fitness will be monitored and assessed<br />

regularly to assure completion of goals and objectives.<br />

(Can be applied toward Associate in Arts Degree in Kinesiology).<br />

245 - BODY DYNAMICS<br />

Exercise and techniques for body conditioning &<br />

physical performance are learned. Class time includes<br />

participation in fitness activities including aerobic,<br />

strength, developmental, and flexibility exercises.<br />

250 – WEIGHT TRAINING SKILLS<br />

This course consists of an active program of fitness and<br />

strength training through various weight training skills.<br />

Students will learn the different methods used for training<br />

athletes as well as the general population. Also included<br />

are conditioning and aerobic activities. Personalized fitness<br />

programs are developed for each student. (Required for<br />

17Unit, “Skills Certificate in Physical Training”). (Can be<br />

applied toward Associate in Arts Degree in Kinesiology)<br />

251 - YOGA SKILLS<br />

This course uses various styles of Hatha yoga to improve<br />

overall fitness and health. It focuses on the mind/body<br />

connection by introducing students to breathing techniques<br />

to reduce stress and improve relaxation. Students will also<br />

learn about the history and philosophy of yoga.<br />

268 - GOLF SKILLS<br />

This course provides instruction and practice in the skills<br />

of golf for the beginner, intermediate or advanced golfer.<br />

Grip, stance, swing development and putting are taught<br />

along with the rules, strategy and etiquette of the game.<br />

Instruction and practice will be on campus and at a local<br />

course. (Can be applied toward Associate in Arts Degree in<br />

Kinesiology).<br />

349 - STRESS REDUCTION AND PHYSICAL<br />

EFFICIENCY (2 UNITS) UC:CSU<br />

This course combines labs and lectures using yoga<br />

techniques. It is designed to improve strength, body<br />

awareness, and flexibility. Focus will be placed on breath<br />

control, visualization, guided imagery and progressive<br />

relaxation to develop mind body connection. Stress<br />

assessments and stress management techniques are<br />

emphasized in the lectures.<br />

Beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels are offered<br />

for most of the courses listed below, but all levels may not<br />

be taught each semester.<br />

Activity 2 hours and 10 minutes per week.<br />

023 - MODERN DANCE<br />

This course is an introduction to the fundamentals of<br />

modern dance techniques, dance combinations and dance<br />

vocabulary. Proficiency in correct body alignment, carriage<br />

and basic muscle terminology is emphasized.<br />

INTERCOLLEGIATE SPORTS: MEN, WOMEN,<br />

Activity 10 or more hours per week in the sports in season.<br />

350 - WEIGHT TRAINING (1 UNIT) UC:CSU - RPT 3<br />

This course is an open laboratory experience designed<br />

for people who desire an individualized fitness training<br />

program using a combination of Life Fitness cardiovascular<br />

machines, universal machines, and free weights. Suited for<br />

men and women of all age groups who are interested in<br />

muscle forming, muscle building, fat-burning and cardiorespiratory<br />

training. Work is done on a “contract” basis.<br />
