MATHEMATICS DEGREE PROGRAM<br />

ASSOCIATE IN SCIENCE DEGREE IN MATHEMATICS<br />

Plan A<br />

The Associate in Science degree in Mathematics is designed<br />

for students who either intend to transfer to the UC or CSU as<br />

Mathematics majors. The AS degree consists of a core general<br />

education component, 30 units in the major, and additional<br />

elective units as needed to reach a minimum of 60 units<br />

overall.<br />

All students are strongly advised to meet with a counselor for<br />

academic planning. Students who plan to transfer will need<br />

to consult a counselor and the Transfer Center for specifi c<br />

information regarding preparation for the intended major<br />

at the colleges/universities of choice, in order to facilitate a<br />

seamless transition.<br />

Choose either option 1 or 2 or 3 for the General<br />

Education Core:<br />

or Nutrition, P.E. and U.S. history or U.S.<br />

MUSIC DEGREE AND CERTIFICATE<br />

PROGRAM<br />

The Music Career Certificate program is for the student who<br />

wants professional music skills but is not seeking a degree or<br />

planning to continue to a four-year college. Students should<br />

consult with a Music Department faculty advisor before<br />

beginning one of the following programs. Some of the required<br />

courses may not be offered every semester. At any point such<br />

a student may add the general education courses necessary for<br />

degree programs.<br />

Students have choices from among eight areas of specialization:<br />

Private Teaching, Songwriting, Music Copying and Notation,<br />

Instrumental Performance, Vocal Performance, Recording Arts,<br />

Arranging, and Electronic Music. Within each specialization<br />

there are two levels of certificates offered:<br />

• Intermediate Level Certificate – this is an 18-unit<br />

“Skills Award in Commercial Music.”<br />

• Career Certificate – this is a 40-unit “Career Certificate<br />

in Commercial Music.”<br />

Students should consult with the music department chair before<br />

beginning one of the following programs. Some courses<br />

listed below may not be offered every year.<br />
