100 - INTRODUCTION TO THE THEATER<br />
(3 UNITS) UC:CSU<br />
This is a lecture course designed to provide the beginning<br />
student with a general knowledge of theater, television,<br />
and motion pictures, and their influences on modern<br />
society. It emphasizes the historical growth, basic<br />
vocabulary, skills, and crafts of the theater. This course<br />
offers students a basis for critical analysis through<br />
attending and evaluating theatrical and motion picture<br />
productions which aid in a greater appreciation and<br />
understanding of good theater and other entertainment.<br />
200 - INTRODUCTION TO ACTING (3 UNITS)<br />
UC:CSU<br />
A review is made of actors and acting approaches, past<br />
and present, along with elements of the actors’ work as<br />
artists. The course covers introductory exercises in voice,<br />
diction, movement, and personality projection. The<br />
reading of plays and viewing of theatrical performances<br />
are also included.<br />
232 - PLAY PRODUCTION (2 UNITS) UC:CSU -<br />
RPT 3<br />
Training and practice are given in all phases of mounting<br />
plays for stage and television. Topics considered are play<br />
selection, organization, directing, performance, costume<br />
and scenery designing, construction, and lighting.<br />
250 - CHILDREN’S THEATER PRODUCTION<br />
(2 UNITS) CSU RPT 3<br />
Experience is given in the acting, directing, and<br />
producing of children’s plays for public presentation.<br />
270 - BEGINNING ACTING (3 UNITS) UC:CSU<br />
This is an introduction to the acting process with<br />
supervised practice in characterization, interpretation,<br />
body movement, pantomime, and concentration through<br />
exercises and improvisations. The selection study, and<br />
presentation of short scenes are emphasized.<br />
275 - SCENE STUDY (2 UNITS) UC:CSU - RPT 3<br />
Students are given the opportunity to plan, rehearse,<br />
stage, and produce all-student projects in a repertory<br />
theater atmosphere. Productions are presented before<br />
campus audiences during school hours and also in<br />
the evening. Students must be available for additional<br />
rehearsal and performance time outside of class.<br />

300 - INTRODUCTION TO STAGE CRAFT<br />
(3 UNITS) UC:CSU<br />
This course is required of all theater majors.<br />
A survey is made through lectures and demonstrations of<br />
all technical phases of play production. Phases include<br />
construction, painting, drafting, and manipulation of<br />
stage scenery, lighting equipment and properties; the<br />
organization and management of stage activity; and<br />
stagecraft terminology. Students are given experience<br />
in preparing and mounting play production for public<br />
presentation. Students must be available for rehearsals<br />
and performances in addition to scheduled class hours.<br />
310 - INTRODUCTION TO THEATRICAL<br />
LIGHTING (3 UNITS) UC:CSU<br />
This course is required of all theater majors.<br />
Training and practice are given in problems of lighting<br />
for television and stage. Related topics considered<br />
are the study of color, procedures, control, and<br />
equipment. Students must be available for rehearsals<br />
and performances.<br />
323 - STAGE MANAGEMENT AND<br />
PRODUCTION (3 UNITS) UC:CSU<br />
Study of all aspects of technical theater with emphasis<br />
on current college productions.<br />
350 - THEATER MANAGEMENT (3 UNITS) CSU<br />
A study is made of the principals of play production,<br />
including script selection, financing, selecting personnel,<br />
casting, theater organization and management, budgeting,<br />
advertising, and publicity.<br />
550 - MULTIMEDIA PRODUCTION FOR THE<br />
STAGE (2 UNITS) CSU - RPT 2<br />
This course investigates the use of “new technologies”<br />
and their incorporation in the performing arts. Areas<br />
covered include television production and editing,<br />
telecommunication and internet performance.<br />
