21 - MEDICAL OFFICE PROCEDURES I (5 UNITS)<br />

Prerequisite: CAOT 2.<br />

Co requisite: Concurrent enrollment in one of the following: CAOT<br />

64, 185, or 285.<br />

Recommended: Biology 33 and Business 31<br />

This is a beginning medical transcriptions course<br />

where students learn medical terminology: anatomy<br />

and physiology, disease processes, pharmaceutical,<br />

pathological and laboratory, and related medical terms.<br />

Emphasis is on developing speed and accuracy in<br />

transcribing dictated medical documents including chart<br />

notes, history and physical reports, consultations, office<br />

procedure notes, x-ray reports, progress notes, and letters.<br />

This course may require 3.10 hours per week of student lab<br />

work to be scheduled as arranged with instructor. 3:10 TBA<br />

22 - MEDICAL OFFICE PROCEDURES II (5 UNITS)<br />

Prerequisite: Completion of CAOT 21 or equivalent with a letter grade<br />

of “C” or better and CAOT 2.<br />

Co-requisite: Concurrent enrollment in one of the following: CAOT<br />

64, 185, or 285.<br />

Recommended: Biology 33, Business 31, and CAOT 34<br />

This is an advanced course where students improve their<br />

skill in typing medical documents, case histories, medical<br />

reports, history and physicals. Additionally, students<br />

learn about medical ethics and sensitivity training for the<br />

medical office, privacy laws, telephone etiquette, handling<br />

of confidential documents, scheduling appoints in a variety<br />

of medical facilities, and medical insurance.This course<br />

may require 3.10 hours per week of student lab work to be<br />

scheduled as arranged with instructor. 3:10 TBA<br />

23 - LEGAL OFFICE PROCEDURES I (5 UNITS)<br />

Prerequisite: Completion of CAOT 2 or equivalent with a letter grade<br />

“C” or better.<br />

Co-requisite: Concurrent enrollment in one of the following: CAOT<br />

64, 185, or 285.<br />

Specialized training is offered to develop the skills<br />

required in the modern law office. Correspondence and<br />

legal documents are transcribed from dictation into a<br />

computer for printout.This course may require 3.10 hours<br />

per week of student lab work to be scheduled as arranged<br />

with instructor. 3:10 TBA<br />

30 - OFFICE PROCEDURES (3 UNITS) CSU<br />

Recommended: Concurrent enrollment in one of the following: CAOT<br />

1 or Bus 60<br />

Office work methods are studied. Students learn about<br />

work routine, ethics, etiquette, mail handling, and<br />

telephone technique.This course may require 3.10 hours<br />

per week of student lab work to be scheduled as arranged<br />

33 - RECORDS MANAGEMENT AND FILING<br />

(2 UNITS)<br />

This course covers the study of standard ARMA rules and<br />

principles of indexing and filing. Training is provided in<br />

filing methods most frequently used including alphabetic,<br />

numeric, geographic, and subject.This course may require<br />

1.25 hours per week of student lab work to be scheduled<br />

34 - BUSINESS TERMINOLOGY (2 UNITS) CSU<br />

This course will enrich office vocabulary and improve<br />

spelling with particular emphasis on words used in<br />

business communication. This course may require 1.25<br />

hours per week of student lab work to be scheduled as<br />

47 - APPLIED OFFICE PRACTICE (2 UNITS) - RPT<br />

3 CSU<br />

Opportunity for practice of office skills is provided in<br />

an on-campus office. Placements are made according to<br />

the skills possessed by the student and requirements of<br />

the office. This course may require 3.10 hours per week<br />

of student lab work to be scheduled as arranged with<br />

61 - INTRODUCTION TO OFFICE MACHINES<br />

(1 UNIT) CSU<br />

This class teaches touch operating skills on the computer<br />

ten-key pad, emphasizing speed and accuracy. Same as<br />

Office Machines 001. This course may require 3.10 hours<br />

per week of student lab work to be scheduled as arranged<br />

64 - OFFICE ADMINISTRATION LABORATORY<br />

(1 UNIT) RPT 3 (P/NP) CSU<br />

Co requisite: Concurrent enrollment in one of the following: CAOT<br />

1, 2, 9, 21-23.<br />

This laboratory course will provide students enrolled in<br />

all Office Administration skills courses additional work<br />

time to reinforce skills being developed. This course may<br />

require 3.10 hours per week of student lab work to be<br />

82 - MICROCOMPUTER SOFTWARE SURVEY<br />

IN THE OFFICE (3 UNITS) CSU<br />

Introduces commercially available software for business<br />

offices. Provides hands-on introduction to system, word<br />

processing, database, spreadsheet, and electronic mail<br />
