EDAW Inc. has been retained by <strong>the</strong> Cali<strong>for</strong>nia Department of Parks and Recreation working<br />

jointly with <strong>the</strong> U.S Department of <strong>the</strong> Interior Bureau of Reclamation to prepare a joint General<br />

Plan (State) and <strong>Resource</strong> Management Plan (Federal) at t he <strong>San</strong> <strong>Luis</strong> <strong>Reservoir</strong> State Recreation<br />

Area ("<strong>SRA</strong>") in Merced County. We are also pre paring a General Pan <strong>for</strong> Pacheco State Park in<br />

Merced and <strong>San</strong>ta Clara counties which is adjacent to <strong>the</strong> <strong>SRA</strong> on <strong>the</strong> west. These parcels are<br />

depicted on <strong>the</strong> <strong>San</strong> <strong>Luis</strong> Dam, <strong>San</strong> <strong>Luis</strong> Creek, Pacheco Pass, and Ortigalita Peak NW USGS<br />

topographic quadrangle maps and highlighted on <strong>the</strong> attached map. As part of <strong>the</strong>se planning<br />

ef<strong>for</strong>ts we are also preparing program level <strong>EIR</strong>/<strong>EIS</strong>'s as necessary.<br />

We are pleased to bring this activity to your attention, and would appreciate any background<br />

in<strong>for</strong>mation you can provide regarding prehistoric, historic or ethnographic land use. We are also<br />

interested in any contemporary Native American values that might be present in or near <strong>the</strong><br />

project area and would appreciate a search of <strong>the</strong> Sacred Lands File and a list of local Native<br />

American contacts at your earliest convenience.<br />
