3.2.5 Cal Fire Vegetation Management Program<br />

The Cal Fire Vegetation Management Program is a cost-sharing program that<br />

focuses on <strong>the</strong> use of prescribed burns and mechanical means <strong>for</strong> addressing<br />

wildland fire fuel hazards and o<strong>the</strong>r resource management issues on State<br />

Responsibility Area lands.<br />

3.3.1 Merced County Year 2000 General Plan<br />

The Plan Area is located within Merced County, which has approved several<br />

major new towns within <strong>the</strong> immediate vicinity. Regional planning ef<strong>for</strong>ts<br />

envision new town development providing housing <strong>for</strong> commuters using State<br />

Route (SR) 152 to access jobs in <strong>San</strong>ta Clara County. The Merced County<br />

General Plan was last updated in 1990 and covers physical growth and<br />

development through 2000. In <strong>the</strong> spring of 2006, Merced County began a threeyear<br />

process to update <strong>the</strong> General Plan. Merced County completed <strong>the</strong> process of<br />

<strong>for</strong>mulating alternatives <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> plan and released <strong>the</strong> Planning Commission<br />

<strong>San</strong> <strong>Luis</strong> <strong>Reservoir</strong> <strong>SRA</strong> 3-9<br />

<strong>Draft</strong> RMP/GP and <strong>Draft</strong> <strong>EIS</strong>/<strong>EIR</strong>
