Project #5 –Roseville backbone connection to Citrus Heights for future STARNET
Description –Design and construct a fiber connection between the City of Roseville and the City of
Citrus Heights
The city has an opportunity to complete a fiber optic communications link between the Roseville
City Hall and the City of Citrus Heights existing communications network. The city needs to
design and construct approximately 3 miles of infrastructure (some of which is existing conduit) to
complete this link. When complete, Roseville will have a communications connection to the future
STARNET infrastructure and will also provide the opportunity for agencies to the north of
Roseville to install future connections to STARNET.
Benefits
o Provide infrastructure that will include Folsom in the regional communications network
that will become STARNET.
o Give agencies to the north of Roseville the opportunity to connect to the future STARNET
infrastructure.
Project #6 –Extension of Regional Transit Backbone
Description –Install the final 8 miles of fiber optic infrastructure to complete Regional Transit’s
38mile regional network.
Sacramento Regional Transit (RT) is proposing to extend the existing communications
infrastructure along the North Line segment. This 8mile segment of 144strand fiber optic cable
would extend the North Line infrastructure from the Alkali Flat light rail station to the Watt/I80
light rail station. By installing this link, RT will complete the 38mile network of fiber optic
communications infrastructure throughout the Sacramento region. This network will give any
agency in the vicinity the ability to utilize this cable as a communications link for centertocenter
communications. This could also provide redundancy to existing communications owned by the
local agencies.
Benefits
o Completes a regional communications network.
o Provides potentially easier access by local agencies to a regional network.
