Highway Management
Caltrans District 3 • Monitor traffic sensors on highways.
• Determine travel times for highways.
• Collect road weather information.
• Operate traffic information devices on freeway (e.g. DMS and Highway Advisory Radio)
• Provide traffic information reports to other agencies (future).
Incident Management
Caltrans District 3 • Perform network surveillance for detection and verification of incidents.
• Provide incident information to travelers via traffic information devices on freeways (e.g.
DMS and Highway Advisory Radios­ HAR).
• Coordinate maintenance resource response to incidents with state police and county
public safety.
• Coordinate operations with City and County of Sacramento during scheduled events.
City of Sacramento DPW • Perform incident detection and verification for arterial streets in the City of Sacramento
through video surveillance.
• Adjust signal timing patterns in response to incidents.
• Coordinate incident response with City of Sacramento Public Safety (Police, Fire, and
EMS).
• Operate Dynamic Message Signs on City of Sacramento arterials to inform travelers of
incidents (future).
• Coordinate maintenance resources for incident response with Caltrans and county.
• Coordinate operations with Caltrans and County during scheduled events.
Sacramento Fire JPA • Receive emergency calls for incidents within the City of Sacramento and Sacramento
County.
• Dispatch Police, Fire, and EMS to incidents within the City and Sheriff, Fire, and EMS
to incidents within Sacramento County.
• Provide incident information to traffic and other public safety agencies.
• Coordinate incident response between Sacramento County public safety and City of
Sacramento public safety.
• Coordinate incident response with public safety in surrounding counties.
