The actuality of the topic:
The neuter nouns of the 3-rd declension are often met in the anatomic
terminology. The Greek-Latin equivalents and suffixes of the neuter nouns of the
3-rd declension, on the base of which many clinical terms are formed, are not less
important and widely-used.
The detailed learning of the neuter endings of the 3-rd declension with the typical
endings of Gen. sing., the Greek-Latin equivalents and suffixes promotes the
enrichment of the students' vocabulary, the consolidation of the habits of
grammatically correct and well-considered use of medical terms.
2. The specific aims:
1. To know the peculiarities of the vowel type.
2. To know the typical endings of the neuter nouns of the 3-rd declension in
Nom. and Gen. sing.
3. To know the nouns – exceptions to the rule of gender in the vocabulary form.
4. To know the Greek-Latin equivalents of the neuter nouns of the 3-rd
declension and word terminations.
5. To know the most important suffixes of the neuter nouns of the 3-rd
declension nouns.
6. To know the stable combinations with the neuter nouns of the 3-rd
declension.
7. To know how to determine the gender and the stem type of the 3-rd
declension neuter nouns.
8. To know how to agree the 1-st group adjectives with the 3-rd declension
neuter nouns and the nouns – exceptions to the rule of gender.
9. To know how to translate the terms with the 3-rd declension neuter nouns and
the nouns – exceptions to the rule of gender.
10. To know how to form the clinical terms with the Greek-Latin equivalents of
the neuter nouns of the 3-rd declension and the suffixes, to translate the terms
from Latin into English and on the contrary.
